6th International Bioenergy Congress will hold the BiomassTechnical Seminarof theRenewable Heating & Cooling - European Technology Platform (RHC-ETP).During this seminar the state of the art tech in Bioenergy will be shown. The Seminar and Congress will be held in Valladolid, Spain, during “Expobioenergia” trade fair, one of the largest shows in Europe.
Every year, almost 50% of the total energy consumed in Europe is used for the generation of heat for either domestic or industrial purposes. The vast majority of this energy is produced through the fossil fuel combustion such as oil, gas and coal – with an impressive environmental impact in terms of greenhouse gas emissions. The European Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan – proposed by the European Commission aims to accelerate the deployment of low-carbon energy technologies –and recognizes the essential role of renewable energy sources for thermal uses.
Seminar consists of 2 sessions. In the morning session an update on the work of the European Platform on biomass will be exposed and the leaders of the Platform for each country will give an overview of European funding opportunities and a short description of their priorities. AEBIOM, the European Biomass Association, will explain the Strategic Research Agenda for Biomass in Europe.
One of the most important speakers is José Riesgo, from the DGTREN in the EU. He will talk about the financial Projects for innovation in Bioenergy within the EU.
Seminar and Congress focused on innovations
This session will introduce the challenges, strategies and financial resources in R&D in renewable heating and cooling with biomass.
- The RHC platform, what’s in it for you? - Kari Mutka, VAPO
- Overview of European funding opportunities – José Riesgo, Energy Unit - Energy Technologies & Research Coordination
- Biomass Strategic Research Agenda- Lara Mertens, AEBIOM
- Short description of the research priorities of each Issue Group:
Biomass fuels - Eija Alakangas , VTT
Residential H&C – Walter Haslinger, BIOENERGY 2020+ GmbH or ThomasMühl, Schiedel
Industrial and district H&C – PanagiotisGrammelis, Centre for Research & Technology Hellas/Institute for Solid Fuels Technology & Applications (CERTH/ISFTA)
Market deployment and communication – Marcos Martin, AVEBIOM
- Discussion on the SRA and future priorities for research
Innovation in industry:
This session will introduce industrial initiatives in R&D for renewable heating and cooling with biomass. Industrial involvement is crucial for the Platform to ensure the consideration of market realities in view of unlocking co-financing for future projects. Industries and research centers active in this field are kindly invited to endorse the Biomass Strategic Research Agenda.
- Pyrolysis oil for heating
- Tri-generation / biomass cooling
- Torrefied biomass chain for replacing coal in large and medium scale CHP plant
- Highly efficient large-scale or industrial CHP with enhanced availability and increased high temperature heat potential
- Small scale CHP based on different technologies and biomass fuels for domestic, industrial or regional solutions
Bioenergy business: contracting, logistics, costs and management of a bioenergy company
On wednesday the 19th and thursday the 20th first class speakers will explain how to manage the Bioenergy business. On wednesday speakers will display financial and practical data about the most successful experiences in biomass logistics, cost control, quality control of biomass, heating networks and contracting.
Thursday´s session is about the business in electric biomass. Business opportunities and barriers in cogeneration and how to manage the biomass chain of value: from energy crops to electricity delivery.
What is the RHC-ETP?
The European Technology Platform on Renewable Heating & Cooling (RHC-Platform) brings together stakeholders from the biomass, geothermal and solar thermal sector - including the related industries - to define a common strategy for increasing the use of renewable energy technologies for heating and cooling.
RHC-ETP was created in 2005 and is composed by the European Biomass Association (AEBIOM), the Bureau of European Research Centre on Renewable Energy (EUREC), European Geothermal Energy Association (EGEC) and the European Federation of Industry Solar Thermal.
