Production of other biofuels related to the renewable gas sector
Nedgia speakers will analyze the challenges and opportunities for the development of the renewable gas market, as well as the evolution of biomethane plant connections and connection requests.
The presentation aims to offer an overview of the crucial role of gas distribution and transportation companies in Spain in the implementation of biomethane in gas networks. It will also provide insights into the opportunities and challenges in this field.
2023 marked a turning point for the biomethane sector in Spain, evidenced by the increase in the volume of grid injection requests and contract signings. Currently, there are 354 injection request projects in different stages of development, with 36 injection contracts and a contracted capacity of 1.9 TWh/year (equivalent to the consumption of 380,000 households).
Gas networks play a fundamental role in the marketing of biomethane produced in production plants, enabling its injection and delivery to all gas system consumers in Spain and abroad.
Biomethane is presented as a viable alternative for decarbonizing the energy sector in Spain, as its production technology is mature and investment in biomethane projects is profitable, although we are awaiting an incentive framework that will allow these applications to become injection projects.
Biomethane offers an exceptional opportunity for Spain in terms of energy transition, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and promoting energy independence. From an investment perspective, the biomethane sector is attracting growing financial interest due to its expected profitability and the opportunity for long-term sustainable investment. Furthermore, the positive impact of biomethane development on wealth and job creation is highlighted, especially in rural areas affected by depopulation.
